Julius & Valentina's Holiday Beauty Drive
I love the Holidays. I love Christmas. Yes, I am that girl... I put up my Christmas tree as soon as Halloween is over. I listen to Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby and Michael Bublé non-stop for a month. And of course, I love opening presents on Christmas morning! But beyond that, I really love the idea of giving back during the Holidays.
Too many of us are overwhelmed with work and life throughout the year and forget to do something, anything, to help people in need. The Holiday Season is that one time of the year, where no matter how busy (or broke) we are, we should be doing something... big scale or small scale. It's that one time of the year where everyone deserves a little love, attention, warmth and food... And it is up to us, the fortunate ones, to lend a hand. This year, I decided to gather hundreds of beauty products and distribute them to a few women shelters across Montreal.
As a child, I spent many of my days-off at my mom's work, which happened to be one of those shelters. Growing up, I witnessed first hand how those safe-houses provide shelters & support to women (and their children!) who are victims of severe domestic violence. As many of them are immigrants with close to no contact with friends & family, it becomes very difficult (and sometimes dangerous) to seek help. Shelters & social workers play a crucial part in the safety of those women & children.
For the Holidays, I wanted to make sure they get spoiled a little! It's surprising how just a touch of lipstick or spritz of perfume can help boost a woman's self-esteem. Along with emotional & psychological therapy provided by the shelters, I can only hope that my little beauty-bags can help them face the world and start a new life, full of confidence and pride.
I am happy to say that with the help of everyone, I was able to donate 100 beauty-bags full of cosmetics, face & body creams, perfume, hair products, nail care and sweet treats!
I would like to thank everyone who donated products and time to a cause that is dear to my heart: fashion bloggers Cassidy from Styled By Seven, lifestyle blogger Catherine from Pearls And Caramel, VDesign Jewelry, Rustique, Dans Un Jardin, Vichy Canada, Bioderma Canada, PR powerhouses Bicom Communications & Marianik, makeup artist Lea Begin, photographer Emilie Iggiotti, Karine Vaillancourt, Gabrielle Manseau, Maude Gagnon-Chalifour, Dom Rebel for letting me use your space and boxes and Présentoir Élite for providing gift bags.
You porobably noticed that this article does not mention any of the shelters names... It is not a mishap or an oversight. Most of the shelters must stay anonymous in order to keep the residents safe from their attackers. If you or someone you know suffers from domestic violence, please refer to this link to find help and shelters.
