Creative Therapy in Montmartre

Creative Therapy in Montmartre

As Justin & I walked around the BHV department store looking for new books to read, I stopped in front this giant wall full of coloring books. My first thought: let me get 1 or 2 for my friends' kiddies back home, as souvenirs! But then, I looked carefully and realized that these coloring books weren't meant for kids. No, they weren't porn illustrations (although I'm sure it exists!). This was something else: Art Therapie or Couleur Therapie (color therapy). This anti-stress activity is apparently a huge thing here and the aisles of coloring books showed just that.

From abstract Arabian and Navajo designs, to artsy florals and animals, there's a theme for everyone. The idea is to turn off your tablet and iPhone, lose yourself in the colors and designs, concentrate on the art and ultimately, freeing yourself of your daily stress factors and worries... Just like when we were kids. I remember drawing and coloring for hours at a time without realizing what was happening around me.

I may no longer have hours to color anymore, it is indeed, relaxing and freeing to just sit back and mentally escape for.... 10, 20, 30, 40 minutes... In the comfort of your own home or, if you're lucky enough, on a park bench looking up the Sacre-Coeur Cathedral on a crisp Fall afternoon.

I picked up the Arabia theme book from Marabout for under 7 euros but I also found a few options (very few themes available I must say....) on Amazon, Indigo and Barnes & Noble.
